Special Guest DJ – 360

From LA to the Bay

We’ve been bringing some of the most skilled DJs around on our show, and this woman definitely falls under that category! From LA to the Bay and now Las Vegas, meet DJ 360!

We sat down with 360 and asked her a few questions!

• What got you into DJing and how long has it been?

I’ve romanticized the idea of DJing for as long as I’ve been exposed to it. I didn’t get to actually play around with turntables and commit to learning until 1992. I was a Senior in high school. I gained a really good understanding of working with vinyl; really listening to music and sorting how to blend and manipulate music without visual crutches like we have now in Serato and other tech we have today. In college, I picked up gigs and at that time, female DJs were relatively scarce so being out there spinning vinyl got me some attention which was nice, but I absolutely love the strong presence women have in the DJ community today. What an amazing time to be doin it!

I took a break from DJing and left LA for the Bay Area to persue a career in Web/Product Design. After settling in, I picked music up again in 2004. Been working in music ever since.

• And where do you see yourself in 5 years?

5 years seems like it could be a long time, but at the rate that life is going for me, it would be a blink. I hope to still be actively working as a DJ in the scene. Music is my first real love, so regardless of my status, I know I’ll still be tinkering with tracks, making music/mixes, and maybe mentoring. The amazing thing about being somewhat in the public eye is that I have a chance to make an impression on others who are also interested in music and DJing. I try to portray myself in a manner that I am approachable and able to inspire and uplift those around me. I’ve been asked to either help teach or mentor/coach others and that’s a high compliment, so hopefully I’ll be able to do more of that. Maybe, just maybe, in 5 years you may catch me in a scratch battle…Stay tuned.

• Are you also into production? If so, how would you define your sound? (If not, is it something you’ve considered?)

I’m dabbling. It seems that’s the natural progression of a DJ, right? I’ve got the technical ability and knowledge to do so. The challenge is making time. I’ve got a few open projects that sit on my hard drive that I haven’t fully gotten through yet. For a few of my mixes, I’ve done some reworks and remixes that I am proud of. I used to own an MPC and messed with that in my home studio a little, but again, it all takes time. Maybe I should revisit this and add it to my “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” answer. Dropping 360 tracks.

• Where else can our audience hear you DJ (shows/events, radio, etc.)?

You can usually catch me playing at various venues in LA, Bay Area, and now a tad bit more in Vegas. Please come check me out in Vegas during fight weekend. I’ll be playing at Best Friend in Park MGM on July 20 for the Pacquiao-Thurman fight after-parties.

• Who are some of the artists you’ve worked with, opened/closed up for?

I suppose that would just be Russell Peters. =)

• If you could play music anywhere in the world, what are the top 3 places you would want to DJ?

I’ve been blessed to be able to play in my motherland of The Philippines. That was number 1. So, now my top 3 would be Ibiza Spain, Tokyo Japan, and London, UK.
